Overview[]

Terminal Rally is the fourth episode of Vita Carnis season two. Focusing on the folly of Dr. Farren Brones, who meets an unfortunate and horrifying fate to an Elder Mimic.

Episode[]

The episode starts out with an email from a sender marked as B reading, “I have a request. One of the researchers I know has been missing their progress reports. I knew he would miss a few since he got approval for one of his field projects but it has been 4 months. I know it isn't my place to ask you of this but I am worried. I wouldn't I wouldn't ask you if I wasn't sure something was wrong. I found out where he was researching.  Unfortunately, you know the area well. I will send you the information I have.“ (0:15)

We then cut to an audio longs made by a man named Dr. Farren Brones on 1992/09/20, in the audio log he states, “Yes before the final stage in a mimics life cycle it's even harder to get clear results even went to get high mainly a plain sight and clones they also rely more on their vocal skills than the previous stage these words to learn people closer although they have a limited vocabulary, only speaking in small sentences for alluring. Fun fact mimic have been found to speak different languages depending on where they are from. It looks have been found to speak different languages depending on where they come from anyway and for the elders, we haven't found any, there are only a handful of sightings, few pictures, and only one clear one. The only info we have are from that one they killed years ago. Other than that we are completely clueless.” (0:35) It is both apparent and guessed that the house Farren Brones stays in is Vincent Barrere's childhood home.

Log Two: 1994/10/02[]

“I got permission to some equipment to go out of the field it's not much but I can definitely work with me I've got sensors, cameras, and some stuff I whipped up. I'm heading to the location now to set it all out I'm going. No one wanted to come with me, that's fair for what I've got planned I don't make nothing wrong once I've got everything set up .”(1:29)

The episode then cuts to a video recording of Farren showing off his equipment, including some video cameras, sensors in every room, a video recorder, supplies, reinforcements on the bathroom door, a sleeping bag, and a gun.

Log Three[]

“Everything is now a place and testing has begun an activity setting up in this household has for sure drawn the desired attention make sure to make it look as if I have not left the house. Based on the location I'm certain I'm in at least one mimics territory. I installed sensors in several places in the house, I'm sure I’ll get footage, of the side door, basement, stairs, the living room, bedrooms, and their closets, and just outside the basement bathroom that’ll detect movement he'll turn on the camera and record for as long as it detects movement. It will also turn on the light in my panel to show me where in the house the activity is I also have a monitor setup in one of the bedrooms so I make sure what's going on now. left to do is wait. End Blog.” (3:20)

The doctor expresses that the experiment is thrilling, seeming very pleased with his work.

Log Four: 1994/10/03[]

“Day two. It's around 8:00 in the morning I've been occupying myself with some books writing yeah shouldn’t be too long here but anyway, so it's almost the most interesting thing going on. Just gotta be patient.” (4:30)

Log Five[]

“I grabbed this as fast as I could to report is it from lights are going off down the hall, just barely. it's about 2:00 in the morning it hasn’t to move too much. Wow, Now they're in the living room.  Big bedroom, it's looking around. Going to the second uh never mind. I'm going to see if I can listen in." At this point, Brones turns on the baby monitor. "It stopped. It stopped.”(5:00)

Log Six[]

“It hasn’t moved, it must be hiding. Why hasn't moved at all? The monitor doesn't make any sound something else? “(6:39)

Log Seven []

“It’s been another 2 hours, Nothing more than I actually scared off or if it's not even a mimic. I'm going to do something stupid, okay, I'm going to go and check what happened I'm going to try and play safe slowly, here we go” (6:57)

Dr. Brones opens the door, gun in hand, horrified as he’s met face to face with an elder mimic at the top of the stairs.

Log Eight: 1994/10/04[]

“Audio log, day three. so I-I thought about this I think I need I need to abort mission, I'm not prepared for this, I need to get out. I have encountered an elder variant,  even worse it knows where I am. I-It hasn't come to me yet, the light from the front door comes over often, it's just waiting. It was moved so slowly that the sensors didn't pick up its movement, 4 hours crawling its way to my position. I-I surely startled it, I-I think I should wait. I need to keep quiet.” (7:40)

Log Nine: 1994/10/07[]

“Day six, it's been really quiet, the light panel shows it was at the front door, could be that it left, but I know better. What choice do I have? I have the ration left over, I made sure to have enough for 20 days, maybe they will send people to get me. I just gotta keep waiting.” (8:40)

Log Ten[]

"Did you know, there's a legend about elder mimics, the cultists worship them, believing that their God's ultimate warriors, earning their role as the perfect killing machine... man, what have I got out of myself?  (9:10)

Log Eleven: 1994/10/10[]

“Day nine, no movement detected. I'm s-starting to lose it here, I need to leave. Gather my stuff and leave. I can do this. I can do this. I can d-do this. Okay, okay. I've got everything I need. It’s time to go” (9:49)

The doctor pushes open the door, only to be incorrect about the mimic disappearing and having in looming over the door.

Log Twelve: 1994/10/12[]

“I-its day 11, it's still out there. I'm terrified. Why, why hasn’t he come to kill me. I-I can't escape! Why?” (10:31)

Farren proceeds to have a breakdown, sobbing in fear and emotional agony.

Log Thirteen[]

The mimic hits the door and makes unrecognizable noises. The doctor does not directly speak, only muttering things to himself and crying. (10:54)

Log Fourteen: 1994/10/17[]

“It's been sixteen days, I'm tired but I don't care anymore, I don’t care anymore. I need out if I go out, I could scare it at least or maybe you could kill it. Run as fast as I can and possibly make it out.”(11:29)

Farren gasps and sobs as the mimic messes with the door, while Barron struggles to keep it closed before being overpowered. The scientist drops the camera and a gun shoot can be heard, the recorder is picked up as the mimic abandons his attempts to attack, wailing in pain from the bullet.

Log Fifteen: 1994/10/18[]

“Day seventeen. Friend, I hit it right in the face nearly! Point blank, I heard it scream and then silence. I know I didn’t kill it. The lights indicated that is waiting by the stairs. That was perfect, I did perfect. I should of ran but I stayed, it heard me. I need a hold-down until day 20. they will help me. I'm safe. I'm safe.” (12:22)

Log Sixteen: 1994/10/21[]

“Day 20, I'm getting close to out of food. They're coming for me, I know they are. Today. Today I'm free.” (13:09)

Log Seventeen: 1994/10/23[]

“Day 22, they didn’t come for me. I don't know why. I waited  and waited! I don't know why. I thought I was gonna wait this out, but I can no choice now.” (13:56)

The doctor falls to his knees, sobbing while stuttering the word his, falling into utter despair.

Log Eighteen: Final Log (1994/10/29)[]

The camera is placed on the ground.  “it’s been 28 days. I know, I know, I figured it out. They sent me here to die. I-I didn’t know why but they did. B-But I don't think they knew I would figure it out eventually. I've hid this video recorder so if they do come, they won't find it. I would leave one last audio log today, It's been 28 days. Hope is lost. HE PROBABLY HEARS ME RIGHT NOW. I know! I know now! Get ready! I know he knows this is it!” (14:14)

Farren sobs uncontrollably as the mimic breaks open the door, screaming as the sound of bones cracking can be heard. Leaving the sounds of the mimic consuming Farren, most likely alive as panting can heard to be the only thing heard.

Farrons dead body

The doctors body

Later, a team found the video recorder next to Farren’s dead body. No other supplies were found, only the recorder and Farren's dead corpse, only his bones and what seems to be a singular eye left.

An email/note is shown at the end, “I'm sorry to say things are much more fire than expected. Be careful. -V”

It should also be noted that Farren Brones' cameras and other equipment went missing after his death. It is unknown at this time why, how, or who stole the equipment, but it is theorized that the Elder Mimic itself stole and destroyed the equipment in an attempt to cover its hunting patterns. It is also unknown why Farren didn't just shoot the Mimic in the face again in another attempt to escape probably not wanting to anger the mimic or giving up when it took the first shot with no signs of leaving.

Trivia[]

  • A terminal rally, or terminal lucidity, is when someone gets a rush of energy before death. This can be seen in Dr. Farren Brones when he has bursts of confidence in his ability to escape.
  • This episode implies that at least some elder mimics understand what humans say.
  • This episode shows that more members of the Vita Carnis species have a special interaction with radio singles and electronics in general.
