Overview[]
The Mimic Defense Instructional Tape is the fifth episode of season 1. It is a instruction being broadcast by the Canadian government on how to protect yourself against an Mimic if you should ever come across one.
Episode[]
The episode starts with a emergency alert broadcasted by the Canadian government discussing about the global scale of missing people due to a rapid growth of Mimics as of Oct 23, 1986 which are treating the safety of the public. The video goes into further detail about how the Mimic hunts and when they try to attack the person they have been hunting such as hiding in small hollow areas in a person's home like cabinets, couches, sofas, wardrobes, recliners, ottomans, and any other place a mimic can hide in. The reason for this being possible is through the mimic's ability to contort their body in such ways that they are able to hide in small places, this same ability to contort their bodies is also used to expanse their body to appear bigger to intimidate akin to how pray use the same tactic to scare away predators.
Another method mimics use to better hunt their prey is by using their humanoid appearance to wear multiple layers of clothing to hide their body parts which are used to see if they are a mimic or not. This method becomes even more effective if the mimic had developed a more human looking appearance making it all the more harder to stop them. A way to figure out if someone is or isn't a mimic is to look at key features such as the mouth, nose, and eyes that look abnormal like for instance: an large uncanny grin, bulbose eyes with no pupil, and a flat nose. Looking at other exposed areas of their body should reveal what they really are like hands which are unnaturally long and are curved to a sharpened end with no fingernails. If you can't see their face or hands then look at how they walk as mimics have long and hunched legs which makes them walk in a unnatural and irregular matter.
If you are unfortunately found by a mimic then it's to not panic as that will encourage the mimic to attack if you seem to be helpless. Try to stand your ground and throw your arms and appear large while making as much noise as you can to discourage the mimic from fighting you if it sees you as a threat (this won't work all the time especially if it's a elder mimic or a mimic that's starving). If you have a firearm on your person then aim for vital areas of their body like the head and legs to kill or incapacitate it.
By some chance that you have discovered a mimic hunting you while it hasn't found you yet it is best to stay out of its line of sight and alert any authorities and inform them of your location. Don't make any sudden or rash actions that will attract the mimic, if that is unsuccessful and said mimic starts to chase after you then RUN. Try to get behind a barrier between you and the mimic and stay quiet and hide but don't leave your location for the authorities to have a better chance of finding you and disposing of the mimic.
Lore[]
The video takes place in 1983 3 years before the Mimic defence tape, shortly after the death of Vincent Barrere's father. Two young adults (or possibly teenagers) discuss the discovery, documentation, and investigation (as in; the lack thereof) of Vincent's father. The siblings, Janice and Christopher, are stalked by a Mimic during their discussion, and Christopher goes missing, later being found being mauled by a Mimic.
Janice runs to her and Christopher's possible abode and is promptly chased down and killed by the Mimic.
It is later revealed that this Mimic is the same one viewed in Terminal Rally after it has mutated into an Elder Mimic from an overabundance of food (at least 4 kills).
